I bought a new car which already is taxed so i want to trade in my old tax disc if possible. It runs out end of july. What do i need to take with me. I gave the registration document to the scrap man and sent off the little strip to DVLA so i have no proof that i owned the car in that respect, just insurance documents etc.

You need to send a form off to the DVLA – if you’ve got the tax disc to send it’s form V14 (which you can download from http://www.direct.gov.uk), but if you don’t have the disc you need to fill in form V33 which is only available from a DVLA office or by calling them (0870 240 0010).
You only get a refund for each complete month that is left to run on the tax disc, so you’ll only get May, June and July – you’ve just missed out on April.

Just go to post office. There is a tax reclaim form, I forgot the number.
You can fill it and sent it along with your old tax disc. They will send check in the name in their records only.
