How do you get people to confess when there is no evidence?

At work, someone moved some rollable equipment outside and the scrap man ended up taking it thinking it was scrap. It was an expensive piece of equipment so obviously no one is fessing up to it but my boss still thinks I should be able to get someone to confess. Help?!?

question till they crack or say to them they get pay cuts to scare them. we had to do that my hubbys lawn repair shop had some stuff stolen by an employee well we told everyone they were getting paycut till the equipment was paid for or till someone fessed . kid didnt last a day he had a girl who was pregnant he needed the $. tell them you know they took it that he/she had been rated out hell come clean or youll see him sweat

I would say, unless the person comes forward, that everyone is going to remain a suspect, and take away certain privileges. Not anything drastic, and which doesn’t impede on their normal working environment.

You make them think you know more than you actually do, and tell them that there were witnesses and evidence to support your bluff. That will make them skwerm, and then, confess.

Play it off like you know it was them. Say that someone saw them do it or something, make up evidence, they’ll crack under the pressure.

You probably can’t since you are not trained for this. I asked my nephew who is NCIS why so many criminals confess instead of keeping quiet and he said because they are stupid, so just keep bringing them in one at a time and talk to them. It might be fun.

Tell the group that they will collectively have to help pay for a replacement unless someone is singled out as being responsible in which case only that person will have to pay…..

This usually works out well for me….I use this technique to thwart vandals and theft in my community…..but then again I am the boss…

take everyone aside and pretend to talk to them, the one you think did it tell them that you know and if they confess they won’t be fired. then if they still don’t confess fire them the next time the mess up no matter what it is.
oh, if they confess fire them, lol

It is really hard as it was an expensive equipment. But i can advise something tricky. I guess these man r working at a lower ranking then u. So u wont be able to get in them easy as they will always be careful as they will think u r searching among them.Start a gossip urself. If u tell one of those man that u learned who did it. Give the name of a person that works there and say he will be punished. And watch what happens. Im sure if they will start gossiping around and at the end someone will confess to save his innocent friend. Or the person that u said the name of will learn the guilty person and come to u to tell to save himself.

Pretty out of ethics but it might work for u. GOODLUCK

Police usually would push the suspect to his limits, by forcing/shouting/threatening him and the suspect would crumble under the pressure and confess. Obviously you can’t do this with your colleagues! So I suggest you either

    1) Hang out with each colleague and have a relaxing conversation, then ask him if he did it, and say that it’s ok for him to tell you because you wouldn’t tell anyone. It’s likely he’ll just admit it to you because you are friends. Or

    2) Take him offguard. Tell the colleague(s) you suspect that you know he did it, then see his reaction. When he’s taken by surprise he’ll probably just admit it, and if he lies it’ll be obvious from his expression.

You gotta be sneaky and pretend that you DO have evidence. You might enlist the help of someone you TOTALLY trust. You would have to be certain of this persons innocense or it could totally backfire! Good luck. Sometimes bosses expect miracles!

you know why? cause your boss thinks you had something to do with it, so it would be nice to back to life back to reality the piece and equip and quietly vamoose.call State Police/do the state police report or city, or dial 911
This seems like it was planned. 1. you don’t ever, ever, ever roll, kick, carry expensive office equipment nowhere. find the scrap man, don’t the machine got numbers on it, get IT BACK, serial numbers, who saw the scrap man????? somebody saw something!!!!an expensive piece of equip just rolled out of the building. oh no. Why were you designated as the state police??, or the investigator???, and i would not be on YAHOO ANSWERS asking . sounds to me like somebody better shut up and get a lawyer. was this expensive metal, copper, etc. u know we got cooper theives. metal thiefs?, and that is sad,
